Large eddy simulation of two separated hypersonic shock/turbulent boundary layer interactions

We present a detailed statistical description of turbulence in the high-fidelity Large Eddy Simulation (LES) hypersonic shock-and-turbulent boundary layer interactions with strong separation. Our LES method uses 4th-order, bandwidth-optimized Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory (WENO) scheme combined robust shock-capturing and dynamic mixed model formulations for closure subgrid scale terms. models, which contain scale-similar term addition to purely dissipative one, are shown accurately significantly improve separation prediction compared closures, such as eddy viscosity formulation.
